Tonbridge Upper Age Group YDL team have won promotion to the 1st division after another convincing league win on Saturday in Ashford.
A big win in the previous match and a close second in the 1st match had put Tonbridge into top position in the league going into this match but some excellent performances ensured another league win to secure top spot. On the day, there were 30 individual event winners with 3 relay wins, as well as 12 personal best performances. Atop this list was Harry Wrigley (u17) who set new PB’s in discus, javelin and 400mHurdles. The performance of the day came from George Jacobs (u17) who took over 8 seconds off of his 1500m PB when winning his race. Jemima Wellesley also took nearly 4 seconds off of her previous best 800m time. The strength of the team is in the u17’s, with many being asked to step up to compete in u20s with Sebby Reynolds (200m), Charlie Warren (1500m), Aoife Foley (1500mS/Chase) and Josh Stanley (DT) all winning in the u20 age group.
The final result shows TAC winning the league convincingly to earn promotion to the 1st division next season. Given the strength of the club in the u17 age group, the change in the age group boundaries next season to u18/20 bode well for the team for the next few years, who will be seeking promotion again next year.
