The weekend was a relatively quiet one on the competitive front for Tonbridge AC. At Lee Valley, the South of England indoor Age Group Championships, for young athletes, took place across both days. On Saturday, there were many from the club in action for their schools, at the Sevenoaks School Knole Runs.
At Lee Valley, there were no medals secured, but a number either achieved personal bests or made their indoor debuts. Harry Wigley (u17) competed in three events, achieving a personal best in each one. He ran 54.32 in his 400 metres heat, Long Jumped 5.35m and ran 9.09 for 60m hurdles.
Competing over 60 metres and for the first time ever indoors Annie Dinnis (u17 women) ran 60m in 8.33, Jazziel Obi (u17 men) ran 7.63 and Philip Mihailov (u15 boys) ran 7.94.
At a snow covered Knole Park, on Saturday, the Sevenoaks School Knole Runs took place, with four age category races. Harry Lawrence had probably his best ever race, when he won the under 15 boys’ competition. Isabel Gowing was 6th in the under 15 girls’ event, Polly Moses 4th in the senior girls’ race and Mark Bridger 8th in the senior boys’ race.
A few from Tonbridge competed for their university or second claim club, in the men’s races at various cross-country leagues. Alex Howard was 4th in the Surrey League, Jamie Macdonald 4th in the Westward League and Matthew Taylor 9th in the Birmingham League. At the Hampshire League James Crombie placed 20th and George Marshall 25th.
Lucy Tallon breaks 60 metres record
A result previously missed was that Lucy Tallon set a new Tonbridge AC women’s 60 metres indoor record of 7.55, at Lee Valley on Sunday 5th January. This is also a club under 20 age group record.
