Anne-Sophie Bremans broke the Tonbridge Athletic Club women’s indoor 800 metres record, when competing in Gent, Belgium on Boxing Day. Bremans is in the under 20 age group, so her time of 2.16.73, also improved that age record by almost two seconds.
Bremans, who boards at Sevenoaks School, is a Belgian national, who has a wide range of ability and has competed well from 200 metres to 800 metres on the track. She has also run well in school cross-country races this Winter.
The first event of 2023 was held on New Year Day, when the traditional Penshurst 5 miles cross country race took place. Tonbridge AC filled the first three places, with James Kingston pulling away at the finish to win by three seconds from Ben Cole in 27.26, with George Marshall 3rd in 27.52. Tonbridge AC Club Chairman, James Taylor, finished 5th in 29.27 and Mark Bridger finished 7th overall as first under 18 in 31.01. These five runners are amongst the club’s entries for this Saturday’s Kent Cross Country Championships, which takes place at Brands Hatch.
On Monday, there were plenty of Tonbridge sprinters in action at the Lee Valley Indoors Open Meeting. Amongst the performances was a Tonbridge AC club record in the over 50 men’s age group from Mark McAllister, who ran 42.25 for 300 metres. Under 17, Joe Stone ran 7.34 for 60 metres and 51.90 for 400 metres. In the same age group, Harriet Medlen ran a pb of 7.84 for 60 metres plus 25.53 for 200 metres. Ewan Wood ran a swift 35.88 in the 300 metres and over the same distance Ella Thomas (u17) won her heat in 44.05. Under 17 Evie Dixon ran a 60m personal best of 8.25 and an indoor 200m best of 27.25.
