Tonbridge runners in action for Kent at Southern Inter Counties

Tonbridge Athletic `Club had 24 members competing for the Kent teams at the Southern Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, at Horspath, near Oxford, on Saturday. On a freezing, but sunny day, all but the senior and under 20 men were in action, competing alongside a dozen county teams.

Annabel Carter had one of her strongest cross-country performances, when she led the Kent senior women’s team home in 7th place. Harriet Woolley (19th) and Nichola Evans (34th) also scored for the Kent team which finished 4thoverall.

Ollie Head and Toby Bawtree, finished 5th and 13th in the under 15 boys’ race, helping the Kent team to the runners-up spot, whilst in the under 13 race Charlie Warren finished 8th , as the Kent team again placed second.

On Sunday, Verity Hopkins finished 11th in the top-quality Telford 10k road race, improving her best by 20 seconds to 33.37.

Indoor records for Crawley and Bremans

Ian Crawley, who turned 60 years old in October, competed in his first competitions at his new age group, at Lee Valley, on Sunday. He set new Tonbridge indoor age group records at 600 metres with 1.48.99 and 60 metres hurdles with 10.77. Multi-eventer Crawley will be looking ahead to competing in national and international veterans’ competitions over the coming months.

Another indoor 600 metres club record was set by Anne-Sophie Bremans, who recorded 1.36.69 to set a new under 20 age group and senior mark, at the same meeting.

Lucy Talllon (under 20) opened her season with a 7.83 run over 60 metres, whilst Harriet Medlen (u17) ran a 7.89 personal best and also 25.38 for 200 metres. Alexia Scotiniandis (u17) set indoor debut marks of 8.11 for 60 metres and 26.07 for 200m.
