Tonbridge juniors complete big win

Tonbridge Athletic Club’s under 13 and 15 age group squad completed an emphatic victory from four other clubs in the UK Youth Development League, on Sunday. The club hosted the match and finished clear of Crawley, Horsham, Holland Sports and East Grinstead, in sweltering conditions. The team scored 461 points to finish 121 clear of the second team.

In the under 15 boys age group, there were wins for Joe Stone in the 80 metres hurdles (12.2) and Shot Put (11.46), plus Tom Walker in the Pole Vault (2.90m) and Tom Calvert in the Hammer, with the 4×100 metres relay team also gaining maximum points.

The under 15 girls produced five A-string victories through Evie Dixon (photo above) (200m 28.1), Elicia Lacey (75m hurdles 12.0), Neve Bachelor (Pole Vault 2.30m), Jessica Pattison (Javelin 16.73m) and the 4x300m relay team.

In the under 13 boys age group, Harry Wrigley won the 800m in 2.32.1, Arno Dale the 1200m in 3.59.8, Lucas Van Zyl the 75m hurdles in 13.9, Will Horner the Long Jump with 4.31m and Senul Weerasinghe the Shot Put with 8.13m, plus the 4x100m relay team came home first. Penelope Nolan was the single under 13 girl winner, capturing the Shot Put competition with 6.59m.

Alasdair Kinloch ran an impressive 3000 metres personal best of 8.14.51, at Birmingham last week, when finishing 10th in a high class event, whilst on the same night a number of the club’s athletes competed at the Cambridge Harriers Open Meeting. Jordan Chambers won the British Milers Club mens’ B-race, taking a second from his personal best with 1.54.69. Ewan Wood missed his 400m pb by a fraction of a second with 50.13 and Asha Root finished 3rd in the women’s invitation 400m in 56.78.

Root returned to action at the weekend to lower her 400m personal best to 56.30 in the heats of the English Championships, at Bedford. Kieran Reilly finished an excellent 5th in the men’s 1500 metres final in 3.47.98, with Alasdair Kinloch in 10th.

The final highlight from the past week was the return of Phoebe Barker to her very best, over 5000 metres on the track, at Milton Keynes on Saturday evening. Former GB junior international Barker ran 16.35.55 to finish 7th in the elite women’s race and improve her best ever time, from four year ago, by more than eight seconds.
