Prendergast sets mile mark
Lily Slack, of Tonbridge Athletic Club, ran the fastest time in the UK this year by an under 15 girl, over 3000 metres on Sunday. Slack, like other Tonbridge members, was competing in an open meeting at Bromley where she ran 10.12.37, improving her best by 7 seconds and jumping from 6th to 1st on the ranking list.
Track events would not normally have been extended to this time of the year but have been enabled due to the current circumstances making cross country and road racing less easy to organise than those in an arena.
Plenty of other distance runners ran personal bests at the same Bromley meeting. Over 800 metres Lily Stewart (u17) improved to 2.21.50, George Thomas (u17) to 2.08.90 and Isaac Arnott (u17) when winning his race to 2.08.29.
Over 1500 metres, Fenton Davoren (u17) 4.13.95, Harrison Fraser (u15) 4.45.01, Oliver Head (u13) 4.53.82) and David Barclay (u15) 4.57.24 all ran pbs. Josh Prendergast (u17) with 4.12.12 and Luciana Anderson (u20) in 5.29.67, both had strong runs but outside their bests.
In the 3000 metres, there were three making their debuts at the distance as Tom Woolley (over 40) ran 10.00.13, Edward Lindsay (u15) 10.09.55 and Harriet Woolley 10.35.79.
In the hurdles Elicia Lacey (u13) ran her fastest ever electronic time of 11.61 when winning over 70 metres and remains 3rd in the UK rankings. Joe Stone (u15) was just outside his personal best over 80 metres hurdles with 12.46. Grazia Manzotti (over 50) took 34 seconds from her 2000 metres walk pb with 10.52.35.
On Saturday, at the Run Through Olympic Park 5k road race, Becky Morrish finished as 3rd female with a new personal best of 18.18. Over the same distance in wet and windy conditions at Wigan, on Monday, Ally Kinloch ran 15.01 in the Run Fast 5k elite race.
