Wright sets over 50 age group sprint record
The late track season continued for some members of Tonbridge Athletic Club last week, with quite a few sprinters, in particular, in action.
On Saturday, the latest open meeting at Dagenham was held. The highlights included a Tonbridge AC over 50 women’s 100 metres club record of 14.52 by Diane Wright. Wright also recorded an outdoor best over 200 metres of 31.45, although the wind reading was a fraction over the allowable limit for record purposes. Her daughter, Asha Root, won her 400 metres race in 57.54, in what was her first competitive outing of the season. The time moved Root to top place in this season’s club rankings.
Mark McAllister showed that he had recovered from a recent foot injury by recording a 12.10 for 100 metres, which was just 0.1 seconds away from his own over 45 men’s club record. Under 17, Zac Beasty ran his fastest ever 200 metres of 23.45, with a wind reading a fraction over the limit.
Also, at Dagenham, Josh Prendergast continued his spell of good form with an 800 metres victory in 2.02.61, which was one of the fastest ever Tonbridge AC times in the under 15 age group. The performance also ranks him sixth on this year’s UK age group rankings.
Issy Fassnidge (under 17) ran a personal best of 42.97 for 300 metres, at Dartford, on Saturday.
On Thursday, Charlie Crick won his race at the Aldershot Night of 1500 metres races with a huge personal best of 3.58.1. This was in the men’s B-race, whilst Sean Molloy set a season’s best of 3.53.8, when finishing third in the A-race.
Tina Oldershaw won the women’s race at the Wingham Run near Canterbury, on Sunday. Oldershaw ran the 10 kilometres in 41.20, more than three minutes clear of the second female finisher. Like many other similar events that are currently taking place, runners start in small waves, being socially distanced and positions are determined purely from the times recorded over the set course.
