Coronavirus Tonbridge AC

Coronavirus Update – 30th July 2020

Letter from James Taylor (acting chair) to all members and athletes

Dear Member,

I hope you and your family are safe and well.

I am pleased to update you on the Club’s position based on the latest guidance from England Athletics.

In short:

Tonbridge School Centre

The centre is now open with toilet facilities. Members of the centre (not just TAC) will be aware of the new procedures. TAC members please only enter the centre for toilet use and, if you do so, enter via the main reception entrance, follow the ‘One-Way’ system and exit from the track exit or the door at the top of the steps.

Training in groups

Currently we are sticking with the 5 athletes plus 1 coach rule. With more work and controls we could change that in theory, but then it requires more supervision, admin and safeguards being put in place ie more work for coaches and group coordination. We are reviewing associated aspects, but I will say that it’s ok increasing group sizes until someone tests positive for the virus (or even shows symptoms). People they have met or trained with are then in a position that they may have to self isolate for 14 days. So the more in a group the greater the consequences are.

Training on the Track

No change here, with a booking system in place for coaches to use and groups of 5 per coach, at any one time.

Training on the fields

We have 5 defined areas, which can be booked and groups of 5 per coach train at any one time. We are allowing two groups of 5 to train on each area, but to locate at opposite sides and never meet or mix. Coaches will explain in more detail.

If you are hoping to train at the track or lower field, please contact your coach for the latest information.

Many thanks to the School and our coaches for making it possible for TAC to begin to return to organised training.

Best wishes

James Taylor
