Ridge sixth at World Masters Championships

Nina Ridge travelled to the World Indoor Masters Championships, at Alachua, Florida, where she finished 6thin the over 50 women’s Pentathlon. Her performances included a 60 metres hurdles in 10.78, High Jump 1.27m, Shot Put 9.82m, Long Jump 4.20m and 800m in 2.45.69. These performances gave Ridge a total score of 3378 points, which improved her own Tonbridge age record set in January. Her hurdles time also set a club age record.

There were a few from Tonbridge AC competing in half marathons on Sunday, including Steve Strange who improved his personal best to 69.32, when finishing 3rd at Brentwood, Essex.

There were plenty of Tonbridge members representing Kent Schools at the South-East Schools Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, in Essex. Guy Bowers won the year 8 boys’ race, where Ellis Hill placed 10th. Aimee Watts was 10th in the year 8 girls’ event.

At the Bromley Veterans 5 miles cross country event, at West Wickham, there were four from Tonbridge in action, with Tony Bennett 9th, Richard Preston 10th and Mark Pitcairn-Knowles 12th. Preston was first home in the over 55 men’s category, whilst Grazia Manzotti placed 10th in the women’s race. Mark Pitcairn-Knowles has recently taken on the role of Chairman of Tonbridge Athletic Club, following the Annual General Meeting last month.

Ethan Rocks opened his outdoor season with a win over 800 metres at the London Universities Meeting, at Stratford, London, where he ran 1.58.02.
