The Autumn Road racing season is in full swing, with both one of the World’s major marathons, plus the local Tonbridge races taking place at the weekend.
Tonbridge Athletic Club’s Julian Rendall, who is in the over 45 men’s age group, ran an excellent 2.46.25 at the Berlin Marathon. It was the fastest time for six years for this experienced marathon runner. Boran Cakir was not far behind in 2.47.23.
At the Tonbridge Half Marathon on Sunday, Ben Shearer placed second in 72.12 and Neil McClements third in 72.52. Paul Freeman-Jones was sixth in 75.45, as nearly 871 runners finished. Elizabeth Owen, reduced her personal best, when finishing third in the women’s race, with 88.15.
There were 5km and 10km races held in conjunction with the half marathon. Yugo Maeda was second in the longer race in 39.09, whilst his sister Hana was the first female home in the shorter event. Olivia Owen and Penny Pilbeam were second and third in the women’s 10k category , in 41.54 and 41.57.
