A week of varied results

There were some diverse events and results taking place over the last week.

On Friday evening at Battersea Park track, the Comeback 5000 Night was held, with a series of 5000m races, plus an invitational 800m. James Kingston ran 14.03.26 in the elite race, having tried to follow the pacing of the front group with laps of 64/5 seconds. He eventually finished 10th, losing ground over the final kilometre. He will have gained a lot from the experience, having been brave enough. Ally Kinloch ran 14.18.40 in the same race. In the 800 metres, Jordan Chambers had a solid season opener, placing 5th in 1.51.46.

Ben Pearce won the 800m at the Gloucester Open Meeting, with a personal best of 1.55.61, becoming the tenth Tonbridge athlete to run sub 2 minutes already this year.

Simon Coppard made an excellent debut over 3000 metres, at the University of Birmingham meeting, where he finished 3rd in the A race in 8.17.75. Katie Goodge ran 10.18.39 in the women’s race.

Isaac Arnott ran 4.32 to finish 2nd in a road mile, at Bute Park, Cardiff, on Friday.

Ollie White finished 7th over 1500 metres in 4.40.37, in the T20 category race, at the Coventry Spring Meeting, for paralympic categories.

At the time of writing, I don’t have the results from the UK Youth Development League match at Tooting or the multi-event competitions at Yeovil.

Newton wins at Yeovil

A group of Tonbridge AC multi-eventers travelled to Yeovil at the weekend for an invitational schools meeting.

Sam Newton produced a fine win in the Inter Boys Octathlon, scoring 5052 points. His performances included a Long Jump of 6.09m, Discus 37.56m, Javelin 43.40m, 400m 54.48, 100m hurdles 14.60, High Jump 1.95m, Shot Put 12.38m and a 15090m in 4.53.48. Five of the eight performances were personal bests, including the High Jump, which equalled the Tonbridge under 17 men’s record, held by Lewis Church. Newton’s score would have ranked third in the UK last year.

Ella Thomas scored 4249 points to finish second in the Inter Girls Heptathlon, including personal bests in the 200m, Long Jump and Javelin.

Matilda Secker was second and New Bachelor fifth in the Senior Girls Heptathlon, scoring 4589 and 3874 points. Secker’s performances included three personal bests, with a 200m in 25.82 amongst them.

Georgia Baker finished third in the Senior Women’s Heptathlon with 4589 points and Jo Stone was sixth in the Senior Boys Decathlon with 5341 points.

At the time of writing, I don’t have the results from the UK Youth Development League match at Tooting.
