The last week was certainly one of the quietest of the Summer, in terms of meetings and performances taking place, with only a handful of members in action.
There were a few competing at the Cambridge Harriers and British Milers Club meeting on Wednesday evening, at Eltham. Jordan Chambers finished a close 2nd in the 800 metres A- race in 1.52.56, whilst under 17 Joseph Hunt dipped under two minutes for the first time, in race C, with 1.59.76. Noémie Thomson shaved a tenth of a second from her 1500 metres pb, with 4.33.52, which keeps her 10th on the club all-time list.
Josh Prendergast ran an excellent 15.25.25 in his 5000 metres debut, as a first year in the under 20 age group. The only sprinter in action was Lenny Saville, who has only recently joined the club. He ran 11.94 for 100 metres and soon after 53.82 for 400 metres.
On the roads, also on Wednesday evening, at Clapham, John Harley ran 23.10 for 5km, to set a Tonbridge AC over 70 men’s record.
James West returned from training in Switzerland to finish 2nd in the Podium 5km road race at Barrowford, Lancashire, on Saturday evening, running 14.02. He then raced an hour later in the innovative time trial event, where athletes set off at one-minute intervals and ran one lap of the circuit, measured at 1035 metres. West ran 2.33.6 to record the 4th fastest time.
