Tonbridge Athletic Club had ten athletes competing at the National under 20 and 23 Championships, held at Chelmsford, over the weekend, with six of them achieving a top eight placing.
The only medal winning performance came from Charlotte Alexander, who finished 3rd in the under 23 women’s 5000 metres in 16.48.06, in extremely warm conditions. Just afterwards, James Kingston ran 14.18.50 to finish 5th in the under 23 men’s 5000 metres.
Asha Root finished 6th in the under 23 women’s 400 metres final in 57.09, in a race won by Olympic 800m silver medallist, Keely Hodgkinson. Kirsty-Anne Ebbage also had a 6th place finish in the women’s Discus, where she threw 43.03 metres.
Charlie Crick ran 1.50.46 in his 800m heat to make a high quality under 23 men’s final, but finished 8th overall, whilst Anne-Sophie Bremans had a similar result in the under 20 women’s 400 metres. Bremans ran 56.08 in her heat on Saturday and then finished 8th in Sunday’s final.
Amongst other results over the last week, Kieran Reilly finished 4th over 1500m at Stretford, on Tuesday, with a season’s best time of 3.46.23. Annabel Carter was not far away from her 800m best, at Watford, on Wednesday, where she ran 2.16.81, whilst Jordan Chambers ran 1.52.51, his best time this season. Also, on Wednesday, Will Beeston won a 1500m in 3.55.47, at Loughborough, which was a personal best.
At the South-East Schools Inter Counties meeting, at Basingstoke, Joe Stone won the under 17 men’s Long Jump with 6.25m. Sam Newton equalled his personal best when finishing 2nd in the High Jump with 1.85m, whilst there was also a 2nd place finish for Harrison Fraser, in the 1500m steeplechase, with 4.40.47.
