The event, in Northern Italy, attracted teams from fifteen countries, with the England men’s team finishing 2ndto Italy, with Romania 3rd. The men’s race was run over the half marathon distance, although included a considerable amount of hard uphill running, with Nicholls finishing 10th overall and being the second England scorer home, behind team mate Chris Richards, who was 5th.

Another Tonbridge distance runner, who has come through the age groups, like Nicholls, is George Duggan, who is having his final year of athletics scholarship, at the University of Portland, in USA. Duggan finished 15thin the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships, at Concord, California, on Friday. He will now head to the Regional Championships, that take place on 12th November, with hopes of qualifying for the National Championships, at the end of the month.

Back in the UK, it was a quiet weekend for the club’s athletes, who next compete as teams at this coming weekend’s National Cross Country Relay Championships, at Mansfield.
