Including 200 metres record from Diane Wright (photo)
Tonbridge Athletic Club hosted their second evening open meeting of the season, on Tuesday, with all events being filled to capacity, mainly by athletes from across Kent clubs. The Kent 5000 metres championships were also included in the programme this year.
The 100 metres started off the track proceedings, with ten races taking place. The fastest sprinters were under 17s Josh Shaghaghi, who ran 11.34, and Lucinda White with 13.67, who both ran into a headwind. Joe Stone, who is in the under 15 age group, ran a personal best of 11.97, his first time under twelve seconds, despite the unhelpful conditions.
Over 50 age group athletes Diane Wright and Steve Daly ran 14.63 and 13.57, respectively and might go quicker with fairer conditions. They both returned later in the evening for the 200 metres, where Wright set a new Tonbridge age group record of 30.65, whilst Daly was not far away from setting a men’s best with 26.85. Ethan Tasker (u17) was the fastest over the distance with 23.50, which was just outside his pb.
Stuart Brown (3.57.50) and Annabel Carter (4.46.01) were the quickest male and female 1500 metres runners in action, whilst under 13, Arno Dale impressed when running 5.03.06.
The evening on the track finished with the Kent 5000 metres championships and in the first race Tonbridge athletes filled all three of the women’s podium positions. Imogen Amos won in 18.26.37, from Chloe Bird (18.33.28) and Lucy Thompson (18.39.96). Then in the men’s race Dan Bradley had a fine run to claim the bronze medal in 15.13.11, which was a personal best.
In the Long Jump, Lucinda White (u17) once again showed good form equalling her best ever distance with 5.01m, whilst under 15, Evie Dixon, was just short of her own pb with 4.19m. In the Shot Put, Peter Buxton threw 9.29m in the over 55 age group and in the Discus Ellie Cannon (u15) added more than two metres to her pb with 28.49m.
On Wednesday evening, at Lee Valley, a few Tonbridge athletes took part in the sprint meeting. Lucy Tallon (u17) showed that she is recovering well from a recent hamstring injury, running 12.20 for 100 metres, although slightly wind-aided. Under 15, Harriet Medlen, ran her best ever times for both 100 metres and 200 metres with 12.73 and 26.09, although again both were wind-assisted.
