George Duggan, of Tonbridge Athletic Club, returned to racing in the USA on Friday, when he competed for the University of Portland in a cross country meeting at Eugene, Oregon. It was his first race since breaking four minutes for the mile, last February.
Duggan finished fifth in the high quality 8km invitational event in 24.31, helping his team to the win and will hope to be part of the squad in the upcoming championships.
Duggan has been with Tonbridge AC since 2009 and one multiple National and English Schools track and cross country titles, before attending Loughborough University and then moving to Portland for a two-year Masters’ degree.
The USA seems to be a step ahead of the UK in terms of athletics competitions going on, with a number of indoor and outdoor track meetings taking place in addition to some cross country events. Meanwhile, back home, Tonbridge Athletic Club athletes are limited to training on their own or with one other person.
