The Lee Valley Athletic Centre hosted the South of England Indoor Championships, at the weekend, for the under 13, 15 and 17 age groups. Tonbridge Athletic Club members claimed three medals, headed by Ella Thomas, who tied for the win in the under 17 women’s High Jump. Thomas cleared 1.65 metres, the same height as a fellow competitor and with both also having the same number of failures during the competition, the result was a tie.
Elicia Lacey had a busy weekend, competing in both the under 17 women’s 60 metres sprint and 60 metres hurdles. Lacey made the semi-finals of the former and won a bronze medal in the latter. Her time in the final was 9.10, having run 9.08 in the semi-final. Elsa Pawson also won a bronze medal, when she set a personal best of 3.20 metres in the under 17 Pole Vault.
Lucy Reid won the Hohenhort 15 kilometres road race in South Africa on Saturday morning. Reid, who is enjoying a spell abroad whilst training and racing, ran 53.04 on a hilly course, which was just 32 seconds outside the course record set by Elana Meyer, who won an Olympic silver medal, at 10,000 metres, in 1992.
Ben Cole equalled his Tonbridge AC men’s over 35 age-group record, when he ran 29.21 in the Valencia 10km road race, in Spain, on Sunday.
On Saturday, competing for their school, at the Sevenoaks Cross Country Knole Runs, Tom Claridge finished 2nd and josh Prendergast 4th in the boys’ race and Jess Poland 6th in the girls’ event.
