The Tonbridge Athletic Club men’s and women’s teams both won their final matches of the season, in the Kent Division of the Southern Counties Veterans League, at Dartford, on Friday evening. At this final match, the men won with 71 points, 6 ahead of Dartford, whilst the women had a close battle to score 62 points, just 1.5 points ahead of both Dartford and Blackheath.
On the men’s side, there were wins in the over 50 age group from Mark McAllister (100m, 12.4), Nick Arnott (800m, 2.14.4) and Chris Leach (Discus, 32.23m). Ian Crawley broke his own Tonbridge, over 60 men’s Discus record, when winning with a throw of 39.51 metres and Tonbridge won the 4x200m relay.
Wins for the women came from over 50s Diane Wight (100m, 14.6) and Lisa Knight (800m, 2.40.7), whilst Nina Ridge won the over 35s High Jump with 1.20m. Diane Bradley broke her own club, over 60s record in the Discus, when winning with 19.90 metres.
Other highlights from the week included some performances on a very wet Wednesday, both at Brighton and Tooting. Lucy Tallon improved her Tonbridge under 20 women’s 100 metres record to 12.03, at Brighton and then helped the 4×100 metres relay team to a club record of 48.45, alongside Asha Root, Maddison Illsley and Amelie Rabbidge. At Tooting, the Tonbridge highlight was Jordan Chambers running a personal best for 800 metres of 1.49.79, to move to 10th on the Tonbridge all-time list for the event.
On the roads, the East Peckham 10k road race took place on Sunday morning, with more than 200 finishers. Imogen Amos won the women’s race in 37.51, whilst Dan Bradley was 2nd in the men’s race in 32.03.
