Nobody is paid at TAC. Subscriptions are used to pay for equipment, facilities and many competition entries. Everything else is done by volunteers. The more volunteers we have the less everyone needs to do or the more that we can get done.

We have many, many things that we need helpers for, some are big and some are small, but all are important. We have specific roles that we need to fill and a general pool of people who already volunteer that we would like to add your name to.

Many of the roles (results runner, sandpit raking, setting out equipment for events, putting the high jump bar back on, providing refreshments) do not require prior technical knowledge or experience, just a willingness to help. If a training course is required (for officials or coaches) the costs are reimbursed.

I set out below some specific and general roles that we need to fill but regardless of whether you can help with those I do want to know who is willing to volunteer in any capacity. So please let me know by replying to this email or writing to me - 

  • Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Administrator

Everyone who works with children at TAC has to be cleared by a DBS check and it would relieve the burden on existing Club Officers if we could appoint somebody to take on this specific responsibility. The main requirement, beyond willingness, is to be based in the UK.

  • Development & Open Meetings Entries and Results

We are looking for someone to administer the entries and results for our development and open meetings held during the summer. Organisation and being comfortable using generic computer systems are the main requirements. This role could be job shared and can be split into entries and results or over meeting dates.

  • Team Managers

The success of the club means we are entering more leagues next year and we need organised people to take on the role of Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager. This does not require coaching knowledge, just the ability to organise people to be at a particular place on a particular date at a particular time. We are looking for people specifically to help with the Southern Athletics League and for both age groups of the Youth Development League. These teams cannot operate without Team Managers.

  • Officials and Coaches

These roles are fundamental to the purpose of an athletics club. With more coaches we can have more groups of athletes. With more officials we can better cover the league and open meetings planned for next year. Officials courses, in particular, can be half-a-day or less.   • Tornados

If you want to do volunteering for your bronze or silver DofE award have you considered helping with the Tornados? Sunday mornings, 10.30-11.30.

Circuit training 

TAC circuit training for U15s and older is available free at Judd School on Wednesdays between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
