Driscoll Leads Clean Sweep at Crowborough 10k Road Race
TAC had the first three runners home at the Crowborough 10 kilometre road race on Sunday, as Ryan Driscoll won in 33.12, from Jamie Bryant (33.26) and Michael Ellis (33.31).
The notoriously tough course, over two laps, takes in one of the steepest climbs at a local road race, up Palesgate Lane and it was here that Driscoll broke away. However, on the second lap the hill aggravated a hip injury, that slowed him, before he went on to secure the victory. Tony Bennett finished 16th to secure the team win for Tonbridge.
The big event of the weekend, for distance running, was at Sefton Park, Liverpool, where the British Cross Challenge was held. It also incorporated GB trials for the upcoming European Championships.
Phoebe Barker finished 25th in the senior women's race and was unlucky to place seventh in the under 23 category. as Great Britain take a team of six to the European Championships for this age group.
Max Nicholls (60th), Alasdair Kinloch (74th) and Jamie Goodge (78th) all had strong runs in the men's race, where 625 finished. Katie Goodge finished 12th in the under 17 women's event and Dan Schofield 71st in the under 20 men's race.
In the USA James West finished 74th in the National Collegiate Cross Country Championships, in Indiana.
